Students' Association of the University of Adelaide

The Students' Association of the University of Adelaide commonly referred to as the SAUA (pronounced sewer) was a Students' Representative Council (SRC) like body that existed for students at the University of Adelaide from 1973 until 2007.[1] It was one of a number of student organisations at the university affiliated to and funded by the Adelaide University Union through the government sanctioned 'Union Fee'. Prior to 1973 an SRC represented student interests at the University.[2]

The SAUA had representative members on many of the University of Adelaide's committees to give a student opinion and advice to university academic staff and administrators. In addition to this it gave comment in the media and made submissions to government inquiries about issues that affected students and young people in general. [3]The SAUA also regularly ran events and campaigns on campus to raise awareness about issues such as gender-based discrimination, student poverty, exploitation of young people in the workplace and the environment.[4]

The SAUA ran annual elections to elect students to its various office-bearer positions as well as positions on the governing council.

Due to the end of funding by compulsory student fees the SAUA was replaced in 2007 by an SRC[5]

Final office bearer positions and committees of the SAUA[6]

Student Media was not a committee but included annually elected editors – On Dit: Adelaide University Student Newspaper + Student Radio (Broadcast on Radio Adelaide)
